July Update

Hi there!

It’s that time of the month again (well, actually it isn’t because I’m two days late posting this but we’ll gloss over that OK?) when I write a blog updating what’s been going on in the world of OTC Promotions over the last 31 days.

28 Boulevard recovered from their week of touring at the end of last month to play Curious Yellow Festival at the beginning of July then took a break from live gigs to concentrate on writing some new material. It’s been tricky for the band to practice as a five piece as we’re in that time of year when people go on these things called ‘holidays’ (do you know what one of those is?) so but credit to them, when they’ve all been around they have been beavering away in the Boulevard hut – and even when one, two or even three are missing they will get together and work on their own solo parts. Despite the really warm weather and the Hut representing more of a Sauna than a practice room at times they’ve come on with some really promising new tracks which will make their debut on stage no doubt very soon indeed.

In the last month the band released a new live video taken from their April gig at The Junction – this time it’s ‘Treat Me Like A Fool’ and you can see it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M1JFYFDstAw (I apologise in advance for the glare which might blind you coming from drummer Michael’s shiny head).

The Boulevard boys are back on stage through August and September returning to the Macebearer in Bury St Edmunds as third placed artists in the recent band competition (16th August), they follow that up with gigs at Home Fest in Norfolk on 17th August, a gig at the Junction 2 for Junction Unplugged (with special guest) on 24th August, on the bill at the NMG Sessions on 29th August with Total Emergency and then a gig at Home Grown Festival on 1st September in Barrow, Suffolk.

Finally on them, if you’re interested you can follow (at the time of writing) 3 of the lads on Twitter.

I can’t promise they will tweet anything interesting, but give them a follow anyway!

On to Lucid, for whom August is a big month. They have just released two brand new tracks for free download – ‘House of Cards’ and ‘Candy’ both of which were recorded at Half Ton Studios in Milton with producer Bugs last month. You can stream them and download a copy for free via the bands Soundcloud page – www.soundcloud.com/officiallucidmusic

Also check out the superb video which accompanies ‘House of Cards’ starring Will Brettle, thanks to Luke Williams for filming and editing the video. You can see it from the home page of this website.

Lucid are playing at Huntingdon Commemoration Hall on August 9th, entry is £2 on the door and at the Portland Arms with Me and the Mountain and The Varsity on 2nd September, entry is £5.

The band are also playing London again twice in September, first on 6th September at Surya and a return to Portobello Market on 15th September.

Lost Lungs were runners up in the Bury St Edmunds Rising Stars Band Competition and as a result play with 28 Boulevard (as mentioned above) on 16th August. They also debut on to the Ipswich music scene by playing The Steamboat Tavern on 17th August before Home Grown Festival on 31st August.

On the music nights front, in addition to The Bath House gigs I’ve now added a fortnightly evening at The Avery, Regent Terrace in Cambridge so if you’re a local acoustic artist and want to play, get in touch! They are fortnightly on Fridays from 8:30pm.

On the radio, I have a jam packed line up of guests for Cambridge 105’s New Music Generator for August:

August 7th: Blonde Louis
August 14th: From The Sticks
August 21st: Total Emergency & Polar Collective
August 28th: Goldstar – Takeover
September 4th: The Balancines & Heather Merryn Ford
September 11th: Ethan Ash
September 18th: Shaun Colwill

Upcoming STAR Talent guests include:

August 6th: Shaun Colwill
August 13th: Ethan Ash

Finally, the NMG Sessions returned on 25th July at the Portland Arms – it was my favourite night we’ve done so far with B Sydes, Elliot Porter and the Missing Pieces and The Floe playing live. There is a podcast available of that programme now on the Cambridge 105 website.

The next NMG Sessions is 29th August with Total Emergency and our 28 Boulevard.

That rounds up July’s news, see you next time.
